Legal Interpreting Courses

Scottish Legal System

French Legal system

We facilitate courses in French & English (Scottish Law)

Courses are devised to meet the requirements for:

  • Lawyers wishing to improve their legal vocabulary as a working tool
  • Home office and Police officers
  • Students wishing to sit the the DPSI examination in interpreting (Legal Option : French-Scottish Law)

  • Awareness of the professional standard in interpreting for both the service user and the service provider so that an efficient working relationship is established as opposed to an "informal arrangement" which include child, family , friend and untrained interpreters.

  • The professional approach between the service user (who needs to be aware of the trained interpreter's expectations) and the service provider (the trained interpreter cannot wear the hat of the service provider but does need to advise him/her of cultural differences, inferences etc..)  See the excellent research paper "Translating, Interpreting And Communication Support Service across the Public Sector in Scotland: A Literature review" By J.McPake & R. Johnstone (2002)  see  this link
